The reality of being neurodivergent...

Neurodivergent is a non-medical umbrella term that describes people who learn and process information differently.

It is estimated that around 1 in 7 people are neurodivergent, which includes conditions such as ADHD, autism and dyslexia.

While in recent years, there has been an increase in awareness of these conditions, the misperception and stigma is a pervasive problem. This often leaves those affected feeling judged, isolated and misunderstood.

Why is being a neuro-inclusive employer important?

✅ An estimated 15% of the UK’s population is neurodivergent, so you either already have employees with a range of neurodivergent conditions or undoubtedly will in the future.

✅ Research has shown that neurodivergent individuals have specific and unique skills that can make them highly valuable employees given the right work environment and support.

✅ Gen-Z employees are part of an advocacy movement and will expect workplaces to keep up with changing attitudes towards neurodivergent conditions.

✅ Without reasonable adjustments a neurodivergent employee may be able to make a claim to an employment tribunal for disability discrimination and constructive unfair dismissal.

✅ The costs of making reasonable adjustments are often low cost - and in some cases, can be free.
